The Role

We are seeking a Law Costs Draftsman with at least 3 years’ experience of dealing with complex Clinical Negligence matters to carry their own caseload. Prior experience within Clinical Negligence is essential.

This role includes, but is not limited to –

  • Preparation of Bills, with relevant experience of drafting in standard, phased and full electronic format (Precedent S). Commencing Detailed Assessment Proceedings and undertaking negotiations. An example (redacted) Bill of Costs will be required at interview.
  • Preparation of high value Precedent H / Precedent R and negotiations thereon.
  • Preparation of N260 Statement of Costs.
  • Requesting Detailed Assessment and preparing supporting bundles in advance.
  • Processing funds with the assistance of the Accounts Department.

The candidate will also assist with billing and recovering Legal Costs arising from both the Family Law Department and the Court of Protection Department, and assisting the Accounts Department with credit control and financial reporting. Training in this regard will be provided.

This is a unique and varied role, ideal for someone looking to broaden their experience and skill set.

The successful candidate will be working in a small team and reporting to the Head of Costs. Ongoing training and support will be provided where necessary.

This is a full time role (9-5), the option to work partially from home up to 3 days per week is possible.

All equipment required for the role is provided.

Skills / Experience Required

  • Minimum of 3 years experience of handling complex Clinical Negligence matters from a Costs perspective (essential)
  • Experience of billing Family Law and Court of Protection cases (Preferable but not essential)
  • Credit control experience (Preferable but not essential)
  • Strong IT skills

The Role

A fantastic opportunity has now arisen within our team for a passionate and dedicated Trainee Solicitor.

This training contract will provide experience across all of the firm’s practice areas however an interest in clinical negligence is preferable.

We are looking for a candidate to become an active member of the team, demonstrating passion and dedication to the role.

The role involves working on live cases and communicating directly with clients from day one. It is essential therefore that the candidate has strong written and verbal communication skills, in order to effectively communicate with all parties involved in cases.

Skills / Experience Required

  • Legal Practice Course (LPC) / Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) / A Qualifying Law Degree
  • Prior legal experience is desirable but not essential
  • High standard of written and verbal communication
  • Strong IT, organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion, empathy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
