Tom Young

Tom specialises in property and affairs deputyships under the Court of Protection. He has a wealth of pre and post-qualification experience in Court of Protection practice and procedure. Recognised as a Recommended Lawyer in the Legal 500 2017, he was identified as “an up-and-coming star in the world of Court of Protection”.

Tom’s experience in this field includes:

Tom is passionate about protecting the rights and promoting the interests of vulnerable children and adults.  He has extensive expertise dealing with cases involving entitlement to statutory care funding, having been heavily involved in all stages of Tinsley v Manchester City Council & Ors [2017] EWCA Civ 1704 (01 November 2017). The Tinsley case concluded with the Court of Appeal unanimously dismissing the Local Authority’s appeal against an order stating that it was obliged to provide after-care services.  Tinsley has brought further clarity in respect of safeguarding the rights of some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

Tom has always been committed to helping those in need.  He worked on a number of death penalty cases in America whilst he was training to become a solicitor, and has volunteered with Manchester University Legal Advice Centre, Manchester Free Legal Help, and a Street Law Project with BPP University called ‘With Law in Mind’.
