The next community champion to feature in our special bank holiday series is trainee solicitor and mum of two, Jade Price.
Jade is currently supporting a group of ladies in her village, who have clubbed together to make scrub bags for local district nurses and GP surgeries. This voluntary venture is managed completely remotely, with all 18 members of the group (some of them in their golden years) communicating via a dedicated WhatsApp group.
Following its launch, news of the venture spread quickly throughout the village and the ladies are still seeing donations of old bedding and pillowcases coming in thick and fast.
Once the scrub bags have been lovingly sewn, they are advertised to the district nurses in the area via Facebook and safe collection is arranged. Each consignment is packaged up with a handmade ‘thank-you’ note, lovingly created by one of a number of children in the village, who all decided that they too wanted to play their part.
Due to the popularity of the scrub bag project, the ladies have now begun to make face masks for the wider general community. These are being distributed in return for a voluntary donation to East Cheshire Hospice.
Jade told us “Being involved in a project like this is so rewarding. What started as a little venture now involves dozens of people aged 2 to 102. It has been great for raising community morale and the fabulous feedback we’re getting makes it all worthwhile; everyone seems genuinely appreciative of the efforts we’re making”.
Well done Jade & Co – keep up the great work!
