Foster care abuse judgement goes in favour of Claimants nationally

As a child the claimant was placed in the care of foster parents by Nottingham County Council. She was abused physically and sexually by the foster parents. The Supreme Court has decided that the local authority is liable to the claimant for the abuse the foster parents inflicted. The Court decided that in circumstances where the local authority is responsible for the child’s care and welfare and they then recruit and train foster parents and place a child with them, the local authority is directly responsible for the foster parent’s action.

This case will open the flood gates for many children who were abused by foster parents or foster carers historically or from now on.
